FITZROVIA

So if you wanted to give English bubbles a go, and you really should because they’ve been making world-class traditional method wines for some time now, then this would be a fantastic choice. Elegant with well-balanced acidity and rounded, sweet red fruit notes on the palate – delicious any night of the week in sultry Singapore!

RIESLING 2019

I love a good Riesling, and this is probably the best vintage yet from Trentino rockstars, Pojer and Sandri. Gambero Rosso agree and awarded the wine their highest award – 3 glasses. 3 glasses of this wine doesn’t seem quite enough - warmer growing seasons mean riper fruit so this has crunchy acidity, and aromatic peach and apricot notes – lip-smackingly good and at a fraction of the price of similar quality wines from Germany!

MALVASIA 2018

MALVASIA 2018

If you like high-end white wines, then you can never go wrong with one of Edi Kante’s masterpieces. 2018 was a fantastic vintage and the pick of the bunch for me was the Malvasia – spicy, aromatic with a lovely saline finish, you’ll need a few bottles of these!

RIBOLLA GIALLA 2015

Now, some of you may have tried orange wine and been under-whelmed but that’s just because you haven’t tried one from Damijan Podversic! While being extremely age-worthy, this 2015 is drinking perfectly now – complex with notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom, jasmine tea and apricots, it also has a long, mineral finish. Pairs really well with sushi, pork belly or thai food – this is what an orange wine really should be.

TOSACANA SANGIOVESE 2020

This may seem young for a Sangiovese but it knocked our socks off when the latest shipment came in from our small-production Brunello makers a few months ago! Geographically not able to be classified as Brunello, this is a stunning red wine at a fraction of the cost of its more famous cousins – notes of cherry, cranberry, tomato leaf and hints of spice, well-balanced with body and a decent finish. The perfect pizza wine!

PER PAPA 2012

Nebbiolo from Lombardy I hear you say? Yup – and there’s records going back to the 15th century from the estate of the grape growing there. Barolo-quality wine for a bargain – especially at nearly 10 years of age! Red fruit and leather on the nose, with well-integrated tannins and a long finish – this would make any Piemonte-lover happy!

NOVE LGENI 2017

This one has only just landed in Singapore, but is rapidly becoming one of my favourites. Complex, full-bodied and elegant, this is a fantastic example of a Tuscan Merlot – red and dark fruit on the nose with notes of blackberry and cherry plus hints of tobacco and cocoa, it has a persistent finish with dusty tannins. It could age for many years to come, but it’s so delicious right now, why wait? We only brought in a tiny amount to try it out so get in there fast before it flies out the door (or I drink it)!

MURO SANT' ANGELO BARBATTO 2017

This is not your bog-standard Zinfandel that gives the grape a bad name, but would impress any lover of big, complex wines who’s never had a high-end Primitivo from Southern Italy. Made in small amounts in a tiny appellation, the nose has spicy plum and blackberry notes, with hints of smoke, chocolate and licorice – decent acidity balances the natural sweetness of the grape and it ends with a complex, long finish. We have a few vintages, all of which are fantastic, but with the younger, cheaper 2017 drinking so well this is a great way to try out the producer!
