Medium Body, Dry (Sangiovese Grosso). Alc 15%.
Made from the Sangiovese Grosso vine, this is a classic Tuscan wine made by Ettore Spina at his small family estate. Give it time to open up in your glass (ideally decant for 30-60 minutes as well). The length is superb. A rich, round, complex wine with fantastic ageing potential - if you can bear to wait ;-)
* 150cl / magnum = perfect for a party! *

Sesta Di Sopra Brunello 2016 Ratings:
97 points Terroir Sense (Ian D’Agata’s Best Italian Wines of 2021) - "Ettore Spina and wife Enrica Bandirola are sitting on a jewel located in one of the two or three best vineyard areas of all Montalcino; their Sesta di Sopra estate is not just beautiful, but also makes some of Italy’s best if least-known wines. The 2016 Brunello is another work of art and speaks about the southern reaches of the denomination but in an elegant way such that the plush fruit and earthtones typical of their wines are always lifted and precise."
88 points Wine Enthusiast - "Balsamic aromas of camphor mingle with rose, new leather and forest floor on this bold red. The brawny, monolithic palate offers dried cherry, orange zest and licorice alongside assertive, rather grainy tannins. You'll also notice the heat of evident alcohol that dominates the finish."
2016 Vintage Ratings:
99 Wine Spectator - "Textbook growing season resulted in wines of finesse and elegance, balance and harmony, with mostly red fruit flavors. Ideal weather in September preserved acidity."
5/5 "Exceptional" WSG (Wine Scholar Guild).
"... there is still remarkable value to be found in Brunello; and with a vintage like 2016 in front of us, consumers are in for a real treat." - Eric Guido, Nov 2020; Vinous.com
As with all our wines, this is lovingly made at a small-production family estate. Note the cute winery logo - an Etruscan symbol depicting the sun, based on a relic found on the grounds of the farm :)
