Medium Body, Dry (Sangiovese Grosso). Alc 15%.
Made from the Sangiovese Grosso vine, this is a classic Tuscan wine made by Ettore Spina at his small family estate. It is also a very special wine - being an incredibly rare product, made only in the best vintages, and highly limited production numbers.
The 2015 vintage saw only 820 bottles produced!
Sesta Di Sopra Brunello Riserva 2015 Ratings
93 points Decanter -"The last time this estate came out with a Riserva was the 2010 vintage. It comes from a section of its La Magistra vineyard, planted in 1992 with the venerated BBS11 clone. Black cherry is enveloped in a subtle smokiness, with a hint of roasted meat in the background. Weighty and substantial, it finds its balance with succulent acidity under ripe, rich fruit. Tactile chalky tannins build up, becoming quite dense, while the finish lingers with freshly crushed spices."
93 points Wine Spectator -"This red is dense and monolithic, with gripping tannins surrounding the core of blackberry and dark plum fruit. Mediterranean scrub, tar and iron notes add detail as this finishes long and tense."
92 points Wine Enthusiast - "Baked plum, mocha, leather and menthol aromas mingle with new leather on this brawny red. On the full-bodied, densely concentrated palate, evident alcohol and molten chocolate accompany a core of dried cherry while firm, close-grained tannins provide the backbone."
15.5 points Jancis Robinson (Walter Speller) - "Tasted blind. Deep ruby with bright orange tinges. Lots of concentrated dark fruit on the nose as well as palate and with bags of powerful tannins. Quite a powerful and concentrated wine. Drink 2020 – 2028."
2015 Vintage Ratings:
5/5 "Exceptional" WSG (Wine Scholar Guild).
97 Wine Spectator - "A warm but not overly hot summer, with adequate rain and healthy fruit, resulted in ripe, rich Brunellos, dense with tannins; the best have the acidity to age long term."
"...there is an unprecedented amount of pleasure to be taken from this vintage..." - Eric Guido, Nov 2020; Vinous.com
As with all our wines, this is lovingly made at a small-production family estate. Note the cute winery logo - an Etruscan symbol depicting the sun, based on a relic found on the grounds of the farm :)
NB: Limited stock - maximum four bottles per customer (until larger stock available).
