KK BRUT Cuvée [Edi Kante] 75cl - Once Upon A Vine

KK Zero Dosage (Metodo Classico) =  down from $59 to $47.20 = BUY HERE

Gotta love a classy Champagne-style sparkler made with 50% Malvasia from Friuli's master of white wine, Edi Kante. Happy birthday to me!

 (magnum available HERE)

RIESLING 2019 =  down from $45 to $36 = BUY HERE

I love a good Riesling, especially those from Trentino rockstars, Mario Pojer and Fiorentino Sandri. Rating agency Gambero Rosso awarded this vintage their highest award, "3 glasses" but 3 glasses of this wine doesn’t seem quite enough ;)

Warmer growing seasons mean riper fruit so this has crunchy acidity, and aromatic peach and apricot notes – lip-smackingly good and at a fraction of the price of similar quality wines from Germany!

CECU 2019 [Monchiero Carbone] 75cl - Once Upon A Vine

CECU 2021 = down from $49 to $39.20 = BUY HERE

A "little rascal" of a wine! If you like rare grapes like me, then you'll love this multi award-winning Arneis from Monchiero Carbone. Very layered with an almond-skin finish.

SANT' ANDREA Etna Bianco 2016 [Pietradolce] 75cl - Once Upon A Vine

SANT ANDREA Etna Bianco 2016 =  down from $199 to $159.20 = BUY HERE

Sicilian wine doesn't get any better than those from Pietradolce, and their long skin-contact white is no exception! Full-bodied and complex, this is a great food-pairing wine.

TOSCANA SANGIOVESE 2020 =   down from $55 to $44 = BUY HERE

This bottle knocked our socks off when it first arrived from our small-production Brunello makers! (Psst: see all their wines, including Brunellos, HERE.)

Geographically not able to be classified as Brunello, this is a stunning red wine at a fraction of the cost of its more famous cousins – notes of cherry, cranberry, tomato leaf and hints of spice, well-balanced with body and a decent finish.

PINOT NERO Rodel Pianezzi 2016 [Pojer & Sandri] 75cl - Once Upon A Vine

RODEL PIANEZZI Pinot Nero 2016 =  down from $75 to $60 = BUY HERE

As you all know, we love Pojer e Sandri wines and this is probably my favourite wine in their collection - although it's a close-run thing (and the Riesling above is a great white, as is their white blend Bianco Faye)! Anyway, back to this wine. Made from Burgundy clones, the 2016 vintage reminds of their storming 2008 and will only get better and better as time goes by.

GATTINARA Riserva 2015 [Paride Iaretti] 75cl - Once Upon A Vine

GATTINARA Riserva 2015 =   down from $89 to $71.20 = BUY HERE

I'm going to have a word with Laura about the price of this one…..! Paride only makes his riservas in the very best of years in tiny quantities and the last one we got hold of was the 2005…..the 2015 is turning out to be equally as good and because it's from the lesser-known region of Gattinara, it's at a fraction of the price of a similar quality Barolo. Get it now before we have to wait another decade!!!

(magnum available HERE)

NOVE LEGNI 2017 =  down from $99 to $79.20 = BUY HERE

This one is relatively new to the collection, but is rapidly becoming one of my favourites.

Complex, full-bodied and elegant, this is a fantastic example of a Tuscan Merlot – red and dark fruit on the nose with notes of blackberry and cherry plus hints of tobacco and cocoa, it has a persistent finish with dusty tannins. It could age for many years to come, but it’s so delicious right now, why wait?

ES 2019 =   down from $149 to $119.20 BUY HERE

Clearly I’m a sucker for great labels and massive ratings.....but that wouldn’t do this wine justice! Named the best wine in Italy (and who am I to argue?!), this wine blows me away every time I drink it.

Zinfandel (or Primitivo) doesn’t always have the best reputation, but when it’s done well, it can be very special indeed. Pair this with a cigar at the end of the night, it’s a “meditation” wine – rich and complex on the nose and palate, this builds in the glass for hours – red and black fruit, cinnamon, cloves, chocolate, tobacco smokiness, dusty minerality, ES is very structured with a finish that lasts forever. Sublime!
